Game Summaries:

Triple Crown Summer Sizzler Tournament:

The 9U Longhorns played in the Summer Sizzler Triple Crown tournament. The Horns played in a 2 game pool and were seeded 1st out of 15 teams out of the pool. .They played well and were able to make it to the SemiFinals of the tournament with some exceptional pitching and hitting. The boys played hard throughout the tournament and gave it thier best but fell a little short. The team was evenly matched throughout the weekend and will keep working to play at the top level and play baseball the correct way.

Longhorns vs. San Diego Stars:

The 9U Longhorns played in a scrimmage game against the San Diego Stars.  We played a good game and won 9-5. The boys played alot of positions and each pitcher was able to pitch one inning. As we went through each inning, a lot of boys were able to move around to different positions and get some good experience.

Triple Crown Memorial Day Tournament:

The 9U Longhorns played in the Memorial Day Temecula Triple Crown tournament this weekend. The Horns played in a 4 game pool and were seeded 4th out of 18 teams out of the pool. They were matched up against some skilled teams from around the area and played good baseball throughout the weekend. The Monday playoff games were all evenly matched. The horns swung the bats well and provided alot good pitching which allowed them to win the first game against the Temecula Rockhounds. The next matchup paired the Carlsbad Stingers against the Horns. The game was an even matchup with the Horns providings some really good pitching and some timely hitting. The Horns prevailed with the victory and moved into the Championship Game against the San Diego Turbos. The turbos and Longhorns had met earlier in pool play and the would meet again for the Championship. The game went back and forth for the entire game and the Horns were not able to come up with the runs in the last inning and lost 13-10. It was a hard fought game with alot of excitement. Both Teams played with alot of heart and enthusiasm and will meet again somewhere down the road. The Horns brought home the 2nd place Trohpy and individual plaques for each player. The horns also qualifed for the World Series Tournament in Colorado Springs in the fall.

GREAT GAME HORNS.

Triple Crown Spring Training AZ Tournament:

The 9U Longhorns played in Arizona this weekend for a 3 game Spring Training Tournament. They were matched against Chino Hills Storm, a well know Chino Hills Team. The boys played a very tough game and were able to match the Storms arms and  bats but fell a little short 6-3. The next game was against a Colorado team (Outlaws) and the Longhorns came out on top by swinging the bats and playing catch. They were able to put up 12 runs and played a really good game.

As Saturday came around, the 9U Longhorns found themselves seeded #5 and had a matchup against a Vegas team with a lot of young talent. Pitching and hitting was again the key to the game. A lot of running the bases and many hits allowed them to get to the quarterfinal game. They met another Chino Hills team in the Wolverines and saw some good pitching. They were not able to get by that game with a win and advance but played with a lot heart and were able to take away a lot of lessons learned. Overall, the horns played well, including pitching, hitting and fielding.

AAU Presidents Day Warm-Up Tournament:

The two baby horns performed very well over the weekend. Winning 5 games and losing 2 games. Collectively both team pitched well, played solid defense, ran the bases aggressively, and got some timely hitting throughout the tournament. The Horn 9's brought home the gold and beat a solid team in the Turbo's. (note:)  8's gave the Horn 9's all they could handle in the semi-finals losing 9-8.

I wish to thank all the parents for their ongoing support of their sons and the organization. A special thanks to Mike, Wayne, Rick, Eric, and Andy for their ongoing assistance in practices and games. The success of the Longhorns organization is because I am surrounded with good help and a great group of parents who trust in our ongoing approach to teaching the boys how to play baseball correctly.  Winning is important, but the process of learning how to play properly and have fun doing it is much more important than the Big W.......

Longhorns vs. Del Mar Powerhouse:

The Horns played two games and collectively competed, and performed ok, considering the lack of field time due to inclement weather.  Offensively they ran the bases aggressively, the passed at the ball with bat at times very well. Defensively both teams lack consistency fielding the routine ground ball, and pop-ups.  Numerous players made some difficult plays look easy though. Pitching was outstanding.( first pitch strikes, pitched to contact, held runners well, and showed good mound presence.)
This is a very difficult game to learn and the baby horns are progressively improving in all facets of the game. We must remember this is not a sprint but a marathon.

Longhorns vs. Chula Vista Green Sox:

The 9U Longhorns played in a scrimmage game against the Chula Vista Green Sox.  We played in the 9U Division, going 8 -2. The boys showed alot of potential and alot of speed during the 6 inning game. Each pitcher threw strikes and the defense only allowed 2 runs. It was thier first game since being split with the 8U Baby Horns and Coach Bafia said he was really happy with the way they played. Still alot to work on but they looked good for their first game.

Pitching – We used 3 different pitchers throughout the game and allowed a total of 2 runs.  The pitchers managed the game well and limited the opponents to just a few walks.

Defense – Our defense played very well in all facets of the game.  The boys managed the various game situations and communicated great.  We were able to rotate many players in and out for valuable game experience.  The defense did an excellent job of limiting the extra bases, fielding infield hits, chasing down fly balls and defending extra base hits.

Hitting
-   Overall the hitting was good top to bottom.  We had many quality at bats were the boys worked deep into the count to get a base hit or base on balls.  We stole several bases and had a few clutch hits to score runs.  We also did a nice job of advancing runners into scoring positions.

Overall – The 9U Horns are playing good baseball and progressing every week.  We look forward to the next games after learning from Coach Bafia and becoming familiar with many different game situations..
